MBTA signage now available for...wherever

Media_httpwwwundergro_vvigx

The MBTA has joined New York City's MTA as part of Underground Signs' inventory. Underground Signs is selling replicas of signs in all 270 MBTA stations. For a brand that's hurting, it's an opportunity for the MBTA to get some positive perception out there about their service and build on some of the ridership gains they've seen in the last year.

Jon Stewart Weighs in on the Lost iPhone Investigation

Spot on. I'm a big Apple fan, but the humorless way they handled the prototype issue is a little concerning. Especially considering how much sales tech blogs alone result in driving for them. This, along with the lack of openness and resistance to Flash, does make it feel like the needle is inching towards evil.

More Coke history

Continuing my fascination with the evolution of Coke's branding, here are Coke bottles, then and now. The first one kind of looks like a Sigg water bottle.

Thanks to Len Kendall for the find.

Imagine Pot Was Legal. How Would You Brand It?

Media_httpfarm4staticflickrcom3482376578257118c9b35ee7ojpg_bdejkejbkjcjhoc

The dream project for anyone in branding/design.

Woeful state budgets have relit the long-burning debate about pot legalization---couldn't California rescue itself by making weed legal, then taxing it? Meanwhile, more than 40% of Americans now favor legalization--which is the highest portion since the 1980s; Nate Silver, at FiveThirtyEight, has watched the trends and estimates that popular support will become overwhelming in 15 years time.

So Print, the hoary graphic-design magazine, posed a challenge to four top designers: How should the package of legal weed actually look? Each of them took a radically different approach.

Coca Cola has conducted some minor experimentation, but the fundamental logo structure has never changed.  A shout out to Greg Verdino for this find.
